Much talked about recently are the health benefits of sex. Curious about why sex makes us more healthy? So was I and here is what I found.
1. Sex Improves Intimacy and Reduces Pain - You can thank oxytocin, often referred to as the 'love hormone'. This hormone is elevated during sexual arousal and at orgasm. Oxytocin evokes feelings of contentment, reductions in anxiety, and feelings of calmness and security with your partner. As the hormone oxytocin surges, endorphins increase, and pain declines. So sex may be just what you need if you really do have a headache!
2. Sex has Psychological Benefits - One of the Kinsey reports (studies done by Dr. Alfred Kinsey in the 1950's) proved that sex reduces stress and that people who have frequent sex and orgasms are less violent and less hostile than those who seldom engage in sex. This means that sex and orgasms have a long-term effect of calming down a person and helping keep the psychological balance.
3. Sex is a Stress Reducer - A big health benefit of sex is lower blood pressure and overall stress reduction. A study reported in Biological Psychology shows that subjects who had intercourse had better responses to stress than those who engaged in other sexual behaviors or abstained.
4. Sex and Kegels - If women practice Kegel exercises during sex, there will be 2 advantages. One is the increase in pleasure, the other is strengthening the pelvic floor. This is beneficial for preventing incontinence later in life.
5. Sex Lowers Your Risk For Heart Attack - Researchers have found that having sex twice or more a week reduces the risk of fatal heart attack by half for men, compared with those who had sex less than once a month.
6. Sex Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk - A study conducted in Melbourne, Australia found that frequent ejaculation between the ages of 20 and 50 helps dramatically decrease the risk of prostate cancer in men. Five or more ejaculations weekly while in their 20s reduced their risk of getting prostate cancer later by a third. This study ties in with other research suggesting that regular orgasm in males prevents painful urination in old age. According to these studies, frequent male ejaculation is crucial for avoiding many prostate related problems.
7. Sex Burns Calories - Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. What a wonderful way to stay in shape!
