What is it that causes a beautiful woman to fall for a plain man. Why do we feel a stronger attraction to some people for no discernible reason? Is it possible that pheromones play a role? What exactly are pheromones?

Pheromones Dictionary Definition: A chemical secreted by an animal that influences the behavior or development of others of the same species, often functioning as an attractant of the opposite sex.

Pheromones, like hormones, are secretions that act as chemical signals. While hormones change the behavior of target cells elsewhere in the body, pheromones are odors that ‘carry stimulation’ (from the Greek phero and horma) and change the behavior of other creatures of the same species that pick up the scent. Pheromones are widespread in the animal world, from the single-celled amoeba to human beings.

Although people today are not as sensitive to odors as their ancestors, recent research suggests that body odors, not necessarily consciously perceived, play an important role in social interaction. Some suggest that this scent has been used to deter attraction to members of your family and there has been much research done on the fact that gay men are often attracted to the same pheromones as heterosexual women, and vice-versa for homosexual women.

Taking all of this into account, it isn't a big leap to assume that pheromones do play a role in 'who we are attracted to' and that wearing or using pheromone products may arouse your partner.
